How To Tidy And Organise Your Clothes & Shoes

· Style,WardrobeTidy,Clothes

I would recommend that you declutter your wardrobe every 6 months, not a hard and fast rule, as it depends on how many clothes you buy during the year. Choose a day when you have nothing else on, a rainy day is perfect, so you can dedicate the time to your project.

To declutter your wardrobe, first empty everything out of your wardrobe and cupboards and lay them out where you can see them. Next, put all your clothes into categories (i.e. dresses, skirts, blouses, trousers). Then put all the dresses, skirts, etc into colour categories so all the red dresses are together, all the black, etc. That way you can see how many items you have of each colour. You will be surprised how many clothes items you own that you have bought in the same colour. My obsession is red dresses! Once you have done that, do the same with your footwear.

You should be ruthless with this next step. This is where we use the 80/20 rule. You sort through your clothes and footwear and keep 20% of the items that you wear 80% of the time. The rest you can either sell or donate to charity. Remove any ill-fitting pieces, anything that is damaged and cannot be repaired or altered to fit. It is also a really good idea to do this type of declutter seasonally to free up more space.

Try and set some time aside every month to keep your wardrobe tidy and organised. This will help you create an organised and easy to use wardrobe. Having clutter around is stressful, so make the effort to keep your area clear and organised and help free up your mind!

Space Saving Ideas

Drawer Dividers are a great way of turning a jumbled drawer into an organised space, where you can see and find your pieces. They are great for smaller items like socks, underwear and accessories.

Hang Strategically. You do this by choosing the right type of hanger for the right piece of clothing. Don’t hang knitwear and casual clothing. Children’s hangers can be perfect for ladies trousers. Make sure you hang your best and most used pieces, always. Categorise your wardrobe, i.e. all skirts together, all dresses together etc., and always hang in colour categories. Lastly, always hang your cloths in the same direction.

Adjustable Shelving. By using adjustable shelving, you can optimise the space you have to store a range of your pieces in an area that fits. You decide what shelf height you want to create to store your pieces and this makes, the space versatile. They are perfect for pieces you can fold, such as jumpers, jeans or gym wear or for storing bags.

Baskets & Bins are a great way of storing your belongings without them looking untidy. Perfect for less used pieces such as scarves, hats, gym gear. It is much more pleasing to look at baskets and bins with several pieces in them, rather than a jumble of pieces thrown on a shelf. Label the basket or bin or you can even attach a coloured ribbon to colour coordinate the contents, for easy access.
