Achieving one's goals might seem like an uphill task as it demands more than just desiring it. Most times, it is easier to dream about having something than working to get it. Many people may feel sad as they reminisce on failed or worse, abandoned projects or goals that they never achieved. Take a moment and reflect on how many of your failed projects and desires never came true and wonder why that must be. What was the reason you did not succeed and is there anything you can do better next time?
But guess what! It's never too late to accomplish your goals and desires. You need to do is take bold steps without overthinking it. Like the ‘old adage’ says, “Every great project begins with a tiny step”.
Here are some demotivating ‘bear traps’ to recognize and avoid if you want to achieve your goals and get the best out of life.
1. Procrastination
Dealing with the issue of procrastination is an important first step to success. It is not
enough to know that you have a project deadline or looming responsibility; you have to make a move. Studies have shown that the antidote for overcoming procrastination is to start.
Get started today…
Don't wait for a perfect time to start that project or task or book an appointment. Why? There
is never perfect timing for anything. You should take deliberate steps to fulfill your dreams because time waits for no one. In 2 years’, time you really can be somewhere you never imaged and that is why you must keep going.
According to a quote by Benjamin Franklin, "Lost Time is never found again." So,
dear reader, do not escape tomorrow's responsibility by avoiding it today.
It does not matter so much how you started your goal, what really matters is overcoming the
initial mental fright.
2. Internal fear
Overcoming internal fears is the biggest challenge faced by many people. It is not abnormal to experience anxiety or internal fear when pursuing your goals. However, never allow your fears to stop you from achieving your goals. Remember, every great success starts with a single step.
Saying positive affirmations is one trick that has done the magic for many successful people. Try
this out: stand before a mirror and say positive things about yourself with belief
and emotion. Do the same about the goal you are going to achieve. You need to feel it and believe it – say it out loud with emotion.
Anxiety is not harmful, but how you deal with it is what matters the most. Having negative thoughts
about an intended project can cause missteps that lead to eventual failure. Some causes of failure include lack of confidence, personalization, and perfectionism. Daily visualizing of your goals will help in controlling your anxieties. One way to overcoming your internal fear is to have a new perspective. Choose to be the driver of your life rather than being an observer, because success is built on
the days you don’t feel like showing up, but you do anyway.
3. Multitasking
The secret to success is being excellent in one thing. Having multiple goals or multitasking hinders
success. It will make it very difficultif you have multiple goals that you are focusing on. Choose one goal at a time!
Success demands being focused on a skill or project without distractions. Your success depends
on harnessing the right skills, expertise, and devotion to work.
Focusing on a particular project at a time leads to success. Where focus goes energy flows.
4. Lack of good planning
Success becomesa reality when there are well-laid-out plans. The importance of good planning
cannot be over-emphasized. Plan every move. Know what you are doing and how you are going to move forward towards your goal. Focus on achieving the small things, building good solid habits and being consistent.
Project failure can have many reasons, such as an inability to develop the required skills and a
lack of good networking or consistent drive.
It is imperative that you get the support of experts in your area of interest. Their counsel
will make your journey to success a smooth one. Surround yourself with people
who are better than you, who know more than you and who are where you want to
be in life.
Final Words
Making excuses for where you are at present will only limit you from moving forward. Be
deliberate in your pursuits of life dreams. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.
Decide to let goof your regrets and choose from this moment to be the very best version of
yourself. It's never too late to start life afresh.
So, start to becomea good planner, someone who avoids multitasking in favour of being focused,
controls their anxieties, and avoids procrastination.
See you at the top most ladder of success.
